Jo & Vlad // Leith Theatre & Thomas Morton Hall // May 2018

Jo & Vlad’s love blossomed after being paired up one Christmas time to make gingerbread people while working in the cafe in the Scottish Storytelling Centre. They told me they’ve been inseparable ever since and as soon as I met them I could feel their connection and see that they really have something lovely going on. Jo absolutely loves Christmas and the snow, so when she got a snowy 7am Christmas proposal on Charles Bridge in Prague, she was over the moon (SO romantic, who couldn’t say yes to that?!).

Jo & Vlad’s wedding was relaxed, fun and just had that feeling of being super personal and full of love. In the morning, Jo’s mum and bridesmaid put together bouquets of peonies and greenery wrapped together with colourful ribbons. A close family friend drove Jo to the ceremony. During the ceremony, Jo’s Dad played guitar while they all sang Caledonia and at the end of the speeches he got up on stage with his guitar again, with Jo’s mum and two of her friends singing a gorgeous version of Auld Lang Syne (it’s moments like these which make me hide behind my camera to fight back tears over how lucky I am to witness and capture these memories for the couples I work with!). Instead of canapés, there were home baked teeny tiny (delicious!) scones and their caterer was a friend of theirs, who honestly made THE best mac & cheese and sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever tasted in my life. The huge, pom-pom filled J V letters you’ll see hanging above the stage were hand made in what I can only imagine was an epic crafting session and are my favourite, colourful alternative to the letter lights you sometimes see at weddings.

After taking some family shots in the crazy May sunshine, we headed back to the hall and got access to the shabby-chic dream that is the Leith Theatre - I could have spent hours in there, exploring and shooting and asking questions!
